LaserWriter IIx information...

As a nostalgic project, I wanted to see if it was possible to write a small utility for OSX to change the settings on the old LaserWriter II series printers. I have searched the developer site with no luck. Does anyone know where I might find info on how to talk to these printers, what commands/API they might use?

Dual Processor 1.8 Ghz G5, Mac OS X (10.5.5), 3.5G RAM - (2) 160G HD

Each of those printers based on the LaserWriter II marking engine is a unique individual model, as specified by its controller board. The Developer Notes that outline Hardware and Software features include several models, but none of the LaserWriter II models:

Some reference documents related to printing API are available off this page:

The motherboards are different as has been mentioned already but under the skin the LaserWriter II's all used HP LaserJet III guts such as toner cartridges and fusers..... they also suffered from the same rubber roller issues.....
